Research Pathway

1) Why did we choose the atom.  We chose the atom because we felt it really ties into what civil engineering is all about. The atom is already an engineering marvel combining 2d concepts into the 3d world utilising augmented reality. We feel that researching into it now will be beneficial for us, because it’s likely to become a big deal in the construction industry down the line. We want to have that extra edge having prior knowledge that comes to applying these concepts in the real world. 2) Prompt has to illicit the key feature and functions Prompt: Can you provide a concise summary of the key features and functions of XYZ Reality's Atom AR headset for construction?  ChatGPT Summary: "XYZ Reality's Atom is an engineering-grade AR headset designed for construction. It offers millimeter-accurate alignment, powerful hardware (Intel i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB storage), and safety certifications. Key features include model control, remote collaboration, and offline capabilities, supp...

Personal Problem Scenario

Ideal To stay focused after class and complete my weekly work on time to maintain high academic performance. Reality(gap)  When I get home, I often procrastinate, spending time doom scrolling on my phone instead of working, which leads to unfinished tasks. Causes/Conditions This behavior might stem from an avoidance of tasks I perceive as overwhelming. My phone provides a quick escape, making it easy to delay starting work. Effects/Results  As a result, I fall behind on schoolwork, and the workload piles up, creating a cycle of stress and decreasing motivation. Goal  To keep up with my schoolwork and achieve high grades by maintaining a consistent work routine. Possible change  Set a structured schedule with designated work and break periods. To remove distractions, place my phone out of reach. Testing the hypothesis > solutio...

Formal Letter Activity

Subject: Formal letter of introduction Dear Professor Blackstone, I hope this email finds you well. My name is Jonathan Tay, and I am excited to be part of your Critical thinking and communication class this trimester. I would like to introduce myself and share more about my background, communication skills, and goals for this module. I started out in ITE college central with civil engineering, followed by Singapore Polytechnic again with civil engineering and finally SIT with civil engineering, totaling five years. Over the years, I found a deeper understanding and appreciation for civil engineering and more specifically drafting. I love to draw buildings and watch them take shape from a simple 2d drawing to full sized building that will eventually get built which will be a testament to my hard work. Regarding my communication skills, one of my strengths is my ability to easily talk to others. I enjoy meeting new people and expanding my network, and it really shows during gro...

Subject: Self-introduction To Whom It May Concern, My name is Steve Jonas, and I am writing to introduce myself to you as a student in your communication class. Having graduated from the poly with a Diploma in Civil Engineering, my work was in the robotics sector for four years and I eventually made the decision to further my studies in the Engineering Programme offered by SIT. My goal for studying in this Programme is to develop my Technical Knowledge, cultivate professional contacts and improve on my communication skills. Hoping to refine my technical writing skills and practice giving presentations, this module will be important for me. My short-term career aim is to become a certified professional engineer. My long- term one is to be involved in and ultimately oversee high impact projects, both local and international. In terms of weakness in Communication, I still have difficulty expressing myself confidently in report writing. English Language Grammar really does not pose such a ...

Thoughts of meaningful quotes

"Developing excellent communication skills is absolutely essential to effective leadership. The leader must be able to share knowledge and ideas to transmit a sense of urgency and enthusiasm to others. If a leader can't get a message across clearly and motivate others to act on it, then having a message doesn't even matter." ~Gilbert Amelio, former President and CEO of National Semiconductor Corp Jonathan agrees with the statement as he’s had experience with a group leader that was unable to communicate effectively thus slowing down the rate of progress at which his project could progress. Benjamin agrees with the statement, as he believes communication is key for a team to complete any work. If a team leader does not properly convey what is expected of the team for a project, the members will not be able to work together effectively.
